Mr Raul
Country:
UK
Education:
Bournemouth University, University of Portsmouth, University of Derby
Work experience:
I have lived and worked in eight countries and been teaching for nearly 20 years. It's a priviledge to have the experience.
What makes you a good teacher?
I got into teaching while at university. I went to Cyprus to work at a language school and realised I wanted to teach so when I finished university I changed profession and went off to China in time for the Olympiics. For me, teaching is about relationships, tapping into the students' relationships with themselves and the subjects; their motivations, their interests. A good teacher listens and applies what they know to the context they're in. The students are always the starting point and the end point of a lesson and a curriculum.
Professional achievements:
Cambridge CELTA and DELTA, Master's in Applied Linguistics, PGCE.
Lifestyle:
I love spending time with my family, taking walks and days out. I enjoy cooking and watching sports. I like to keep active because it's good for me, even though I don't always enjoy it.
Dreams & Ambitions:
To improve a little every day, it's not a huge ambition, but it's enough if you stick to it. I also say 'yes' to every challenge that presents itself because life is much more interesting that way.
