This year, CIS School held a series of events dedicated to May 9 - Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. Teachers and students united to create an emotional and touching concert program that not only honored the heroes of the war, but also conveyed the importance of historical memory to the younger generation.
A particularly touching event was the ceremony where each student planted flowers in the school garden and accompanied them with name cards. Each flower symbolized a specific relative who died during the war - from great-grandfathers who fought in the war to civilians who suffered during the siege. Our students shared this moment with their families and teachers.
The school lobby was transformed with an art exhibition where students' work could not only be viewed but also purchased, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. At the concert, teachers and students recited poems and sang songs from the war years, and remembered and honoured their ancestors with a moment of silence.
Students from all the campuses took part in a literary competition where they didn't just recite poetry, but also staged actual theatrical productions. Videos of the students' performances can be viewed here. Watch the video.
The war of 1941-1945 was not only a military confrontation, but also an incredible test of the human spirit. For example, few people know that women made up a significant part of Soviet snipers - more than 2,000 girls accurately hit enemy targets. Another interesting fact: during the siege of Leningrad, scientists from the All-Union Institute of Plant Growing preserved a unique collection of seeds, literally starving, but not touching the priceless samples. The third amazing thing is that Soviet soldiers used specially trained mine-detecting dogs, which saved thousands of human lives.
The memory of the Great Patriotic War is not just a tribute to the past. It is a living lesson of courage, solidarity and the invincibility of the human spirit. Each generation must know the price of freedom that millions of Soviet citizens and soldiers around the world paid. May 9 in the CIS became not just a day of remembrance, but a real lesson in history, love for the Motherland and respect for the feat of ancestors.
