The elementary school in our system has a small number of subjects, and then there is a gradual expansion of coverage: when a child passes to the next class, the quantity of school subjects increases, and before graduation there are at least 18 of them. The knowledge received in school is quite general, and those few subjects that he needs for admission to the university have to be deepened with the help of tutors or additional independent studies. The British system can be visualized as a pyramid, it is top rushing, as it should be, upward: in the lower grades there are about ten subjects, some of them are generalized (like natural sciences, for example), and then their number is reduced.
Starting from secondary school, children have the opportunity to choose the path of their education, gaining in-depth knowledge of the so-called "elected subjects" (usually 5-10 subjects), which complement the list of compulsory disciplines, taking into account career guidance. The educational process is completed by passing the IGCSE.
High school is, in fact, a two-year pre-university training, during which a student studies only those subjects (usually 3-4) that are necessary for admission to the university, according to the chosen specialization. They pass final A-levels in these disciplines – these exams are counted as entrance examinations.
Thus, by the time of graduation from school, the British educational system gives graduates the most in-depth knowledge of core subjects, and he doesn’t need the help of tutors and passing the entrance exams to universities.
