How to get both Russian and British secondary education at the same time?

In the modern world, British school education is recognized as the standard: it is a classical high-quality system that has absorbed centuries-old traditions, capable of promptly introducing the most advanced teaching methods into practice, and most importantly, recognizing the student's interests as a top priority. The combination of these three principles ends up with truly amazing results.

The fact that private schools in the UK provide academic education at the highest level is proved with statistics: according to the Joint Council for Qualification (UK) 92% of graduates from such schools enter the most prestigious universities around the world. Russian families are attracted not only by high guarantees of admission to prestigious universities abroad, but also by the fact that during the school years English becomes a second native language for a child.

Regarding all the obvious advantages of the British school, one must nevertheless admit:

  • receiving the secondary education in a foreign country, the child is doomed to early separation from his family, and the deprivation of communication with his family and friends, as you know, is a serious psychological trauma;
  • the absence of such subjects as the Russian language, Russian literature and Russian history in the educational programme will cause obstacles if the graduate wants to continue his studies at a Russian university.

Double certificate

A worthy alternative for families who don’t consider plans for early immigration, but want to give their child a high-quality knowledge is British education in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Cambridge International School (CIS) is a non-governmental educational organization accredited by the Cambridge International Education Association. CIS is a member of the European Council of International Schools and is licensed to teach the state educational program of the Russian Federation.

At the end of the school, CIS graduates pass:

State curriculum:

  • Unified State Exam - the basis for obtaining a state certificate of secondary education, which gives the right to enter Russian universities

British Curriculum:

  • IGCSE exams (final)
  • A-Levels – gives the right to enroll in UK universities without additional tests, as well as colleges and universities in many countries of the world.

After studying in school with the combined British-Russian curriculum, CIS graduates successfully pass state exams (OGE, USE), and therefore are not limited in their choice of further education: they are fluent in both Russian and English, receive high scores in all subjects of the Russian and British school curriculum - accordingly, they can freely enroll in domestic and foreign universities.

British and Russian school education: the main differences

The curriculum of Foggy Albion is fundamentally different from the Russian one - and not only by the language of studies, the set of subjects and final exams. Moreover, each system has its pros and cons. Figuratively speaking, Russian education can be called “broad”, while British education can be called “deep”. What is the main reason for such differences?

The elementary school in our system has a small number of subjects, and then there is a gradual expansion of coverage: when a child passes to the next class, the quantity of school subjects increases, and before graduation there are at least 18 of them. At the same time the ex-schoolchild won’t need most of the disciplines in the University. The knowledge received in school is quite general, and those few subjects that he needs for admission to the university have to be deepened with the help of tutors or additional independent studies. Visually, this system can be represented as a pyramid with its top turned down.

The British system can be visualized as a pyramid, it is top rushing, as it should be, upward: in the lower grades there are about ten subjects, some of them are generalized (like natural sciences, for example), and then their number is reduced.

Starting from secondary school, children have the opportunity to choose the path of their education, gaining in-depth knowledge of the so-called "elected subjects" (usually 5-10 subjects), which complement the list of compulsory disciplines, taking into account career guidance. The educational process is completed by passing the IGCSE.

High school is, in fact, a two-year pre-university training, during which a student studies only those subjects (usually 3-4) that are necessary for admission to the university, according to the chosen specialization. They pass final A-levels in these disciplines – these exams are counted as entrance examinations.

Thus, by the time of graduation from school, the British educational system gives graduates the most in-depth knowledge of core subjects, and he doesn’t need the help of tutors and passing the entrance exams to universities.

Child's personality in the education system

The essential benefit of the British school is the attitude towards the student’s personality: Russian educational system tends to follow the standards, and in Great Britain they focus on the interests and capabilities of the student himself.

Representing truly British values, CIS International School guarantees respect for the views and ideas of each child, allowing students to freely express their opinions and encouraging constructive dialogue between teachers and students.

The main aim of the British school is the all-round development of the personality, therefore the program pays special attention to additional training, including ethics lessons. Children go in for sports, music, choreography, painting, which contributes to the development of creative thinking. The formation of communication skills, the development of initiative and critical thinking, and the manifestation of leadership qualities are also considered as important.

Traditionally, in Cambridge International School the after-lunch time is devoted totally to the development of such abilities and skills. It is time for numerous thematic courses:

  • sports (football, yoga, gymnastics, chess, etc.);
  • music (including vocal lessons);
  • creative (acting, dancing and ballet, plasticine animation, origami art, etc.);
  • technical (robotics, programming, engineering, etc.);
  • human science (for example, journalism, geography, foreign language).

CIS also has classes for personal growth and the formation of social skills. Each child is provided with complete psychological comfort, based on the initial formation of students' sense of confidence in their abilities, socialization, deep understanding and effective solution of any emotional problems.

It is no coincidence that employers are interested in the graduates of private schools in Great Britain, because these specialists are inherent in the skills imparted from childhood and can make responsible decisions, defend their position and show independence based on deep self-confidence.

CIS International School is a chance to get a British education in Moscow (St. Petersburg, Tashkent), spend years of study in an exceptionally creative atmosphere and as a result have the opportunity to enter a chosen university.
