On Monday 20 October the Grade 8s visited the Moscow Planetarium. This was part of their studying of the earth and its place within the universe. The students were able to launch missiles, ride a bicycle in space and save the world from marauding asteroids. They also witnessed the rotation of the earth on its axis. They weighed themselves on different planets seeing how their weight varied with the size of the planet, to lose weight go to Mars; and tested their abilities to put together simple constructions.
The class then went into the Large Star hall where the night sky appeared on the curved ceiling. They were shown the different constellations and witnessed asteroids and comets flying across the sky. A visual explanation of the formation of the universe was also given. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative trip and all the students came away understanding a lot more of how our earth functions within our solar system.
