International Teacher, Early Years

Mr Philip

Country:

United Kingdom

Education:

Leeds Trinity University University of Bradford University of Sunderland

Work experience:

I have been a teacher since 2009 and completed my TEFL and TEYL in the Czech Republic. I then decided to complete my PGCE at the University of Sunderland while doing my teacher training at an international school in Brunei Darussalam. I went on to work in Qatar, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Croatia and Russia.

What makes you a good teacher?

As a teacher, I chose this profession because I wanted to help children become the best versions of themselves and I believe education can change their lives for a better future. To get students excited about learning, I tell interesting stories related to the lesson and my past experiences and show my own excitement about the subject. To connect with my students, I use humour they can relate to as well as talk about popular movies, music, or games they like.

Professional achievements:

While working for one school, I was able to suggest/implement ideas and give proposals to my colleagues in SLT regarding implementation of our digital workbook (DWB) for COBIS, on self-evaluating our school. I also had the opportunity to liaise with a Lead Improvement Officer (LIP) to look at opportunities of ensuring that the school provided ""value added"" to its community by reviewing documentation and analysing school data and addressing it accordingly.

Personal achievements:

One of my personal achievements was completing The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. It is a 24-mile (38.6km) round trip route, and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent through Ingleborough, Whernside, Pen-y-ghent.

Lifestyle:

I am an avid sportsman and play a variety of sports involving balls and rackets/paddles! One of my most memorable experiences travelling was when I went on a canyon exploration in Thailand and I went on a trip around parts of Europe in a camper van and a tent. My hobbies include watching complex movies and documentaries, and exploring.

Dreams & Ambitions:

I dream of living in a nice, remote and tranquil place and own a 1969 Ford Escort MK1 (or 2) RS which I can cruise around in on the open road.
