The children at the EYFS and KS1 were celebrating Pancake Day! Pancake week, or “Maslenitsa” in Russian, was received by the children with excitement. At the start of Maslenitsa the kids watched a theatrical performance by Artists, and were told in simple words about the origins of the holiday and its symbols, and how many years ago in Russia people loved the symbolic Red Sun and why they loved it. The artists of this performance - fairy-tale characters Vasilisa and Zabava led Maslenitsa games and dances. There was music and the children were taught group dances. They also participated in a game of tug of war!
