On Tuesday, both Year One groups went on an excursion to the modern art branch of the Tretyakov Gallery on Krimsky Val. At the museum, the children took part in a presentation about art in which they learned about the different parts of a painting. The children were able to see and touch a canvas, the frame, and even learn how to make paint! Afterwards, they walked through the museum where they looked at great paintings and discussed them with the tour guide. They most liked a huge painting which stretched from the floor to the ceiling. Finally, the children returned to the presentation room where our students, working in groups, created their very own works of art. Painting their own pictures seems to have been our students’ favorite part of the day.
